emergency

The terrifying birth of Elizabeth Leroux, one of the seven children of Vasallus!

He was shaken by this bizarre encounter and he really did not comprehend what was happening, so Dr. Berthiume called out for security as he watched the stranger disappear down the hallway. Suddenly, he heard a blood-curdling scream from behind him. The doctor whipped around to find that Francoise was fully awake and screaming at the top of her lungs with her back arched off the bed. He raced around to the side of the bed, reached down and grabbed Francoise’s wrist and felt her pulse. Her heart was racing. He had to calm her down and fast. Abruptly, Francoise lifted her head off the pillow and with eyes as wild as a pack of dogs and her face just inches from his, she screamed: “I told you to abort this fucking baby, Doctor, didn’t I?! You do it now, before it’s too late, do you hear me? He wants it born! He has been watching me! Do it. Do it now!”
Then she fell back onto the bed and began to convulse. She started to thrash wildly, her arms and legs flailing all around, and her IV stand toppled to the floor, setting off its automatic buzzer. It was total chaos in the room. The nurses now poured in and they were in complete shock over how the room they had left just moments before was in a complete shambles with various objects being flung about. Francoise was out of control, screaming fragmented sentences about the Devil’s baby having to die and for the doctor to kill her and the baby.
Something inside him was telling him that he needed to move quickly, as he only had minutes to spare to deliver this baby right away, as he’d been told. He barked out commands to the nurses to prepare to move her to surgery immediately. He quickly gave Francoise a powerful sedative injection to calm her down. The nurses then wheeled her out of the room and up to surgery. Following them down the hallway and around the corner to the elevators, Dr. Berthiume made a decision. He did not have the time to take the elevator up to surgery. He needed to do it right here and right now. Shouting out to the nurses guiding Francoise’s gurney, he commanded them to wheel her into the closest recovery room as they were going to do surgery right now. The nurses protested they were not set up in there for surgery. Telling them to do it anyway, he commanded another nurse to call up to surgery to have them bring down the monitors and surgical tools as he was starting right now.
Rushing into the room normally used for recovery, they quickly turned it into a surgical room. Scrubbing up for the surgery amidst the chaos, with Francoise beginning to thrash once again, demanding that the baby die, the head nurse, Suzanne Agnew, asked with a voice full of doubt and suspicion: “Dr. Berthiume, what the hell is going on? This patient is going to do damage to this baby. We have to get her up to surgery, we cannot do this here! What are you doing? She will die!”
“I must save the baby. We have no more time left. The level of stress on the fetus is too much and it will kill it. We do the surgery now. Let’s move!” In reality, the nurse was right. They did have time to move her up to surgery, but he was being compelled by a power he could not explain, but only feel, to deliver this baby within the next ninety seconds; if he didn’t, he was convinced that something terrible was going to happen here. He could not explain it, he just needed to act. As the nurses worked furiously to carry out his commands, they prepped Francoise’s stomach for surgery. Taking his scalpel, he cut into her stomach and uterus, glancing at the clock with seconds to spare. Reaching into her stomach cavity, he pulled the baby out with the nurse holding the placental sac. Cutting the umbilical cord away, he handed the silent but very much alive baby girl to another nurse so he could turn his attention to Francoise.

Next excerpt will show what happens in the hospital room when Elizabeth is born!

Book One of the Superstars Trilogy, Evil Rises: An Excerpt #9

large

The introduction of Avery Johnson, record producer and Bentley Paxton, journalist, in their first meeting together that has the sparks flying!

Lunch finished up with both of them a little nervous, filling the time with conversations about some of the interviews Bentley had done over the previous few years since she’d been in northern California. She told Avery the story of the one interview that had got away on her with Watermark a few years ago. She outlined the strange behaviour of the band members and their over-the-top manager, Robert Best.
When Avery heard the name Best, his interest was immediately piqued, and he said: “What an amazing coincidence. He was the manager of Watermark? Funny that never came up in any of the background checks I had Jenn do on him. I also had a strange encounter with that dude here in LA. I bumped into him at a club not too far from here, or actually he bumped into me. He claimed that he was an up-and-coming manager. The next thing I know, he’s in my reception area at ten the next morning with his client, Devon Devine, and telling Jenn he has an appointment with me that we had scheduled the night before in the club. I did not make an appointment with this guy. He gave me the creeps, and then seeing his client Devon Devine, who literally never said one word the whole time they were in my office was definitely unusual. Very strange.”
After a few more minutes talking about Best, Bentley noticed the time was getting up there, and she needed to get to the airport to catch her flight home. Avery paid the bill and they got up to leave, heading to the valet parking, where the attendant brought up Avery’s BMW. Both of them were quiet on the drive to the airport as they recognized the awkward feeling that comes with the discovery of mutual attraction.
Pulling up to Departures for Delta, Avery put the car in park, got out and came around to open the door for Bentley. As he reached out to shake her hand goodbye, he said: “I enjoyed my time with you, Bentley. I’m hoping you’ll be nice to me when the final edits come through for the article.” Avery chuckled at his own kidding remark, and then he continued: “Have a pleasant flight home, and I hope to talk with you soon.”
Bentley found herself reaching up and giving Avery a slight kiss on the cheek and a slight hug. She was finding it hard to say goodbye.
“I hope so, Avery. Thank you for lunch and your hospitality at your studio. Talk soon.” With that, Bentley turned and headed into the terminal, wishing she had decided to stay instead of leaving.

Book One of the Superstars Trilogy, Evil Rises: An Excerpt #8

Distraught-Frustration-Life
Pastor Bryan Simmons dilemma. Here is a glimpse:

Never in his twenty-seven years of pastoral work had Bryon ever encountered anything quite like the situation he found himself in with Brent and Lori. When he placed his hands on Lori’s stomach yesterday to bless their unborn child, he had been immediately overcome by a sense of dread and doom like nothing he had ever experienced. That episode, combined with the revelations from Brent regarding the nature of the attack, had left Bryon unnerved and shaken. Having received his theological training at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1984, Bryon was well-versed in Church doctrine dealing with the supernatural, Devil worship, demonic possession, and so forth, but he had never expected it to hit close so home. Bryon had a very strong opinion about the abortion issue and it was much more than just the doctrine of his church. Fundamentally and personally, he would not condone or support an abortion. God created life; it was not up to man to take that life. In Brent and Lori’s situation, they had chosen or at least Lori had chosen not to abort when it was much earlier in the pregnancy. Now they were just a few days or perhaps even hours away from giving birth to a child with potentially demonic connections, a child that the mother wanted and the father did not. This was an extremely difficult situation and Byron knew he was going to have to take action. He also worried that he was not capable of handling such a unique situation properly, or if there even was a proper way to handle it. He picked up the phone and dialled a pastor friend of his from another county about two hours east of Cheyenne. Pastor Jim Sigardson was a good friend as well as a colleague, as the two of them had been in seminary together and they had remained close through the years. He trusted Jim with anything, and vice versa. They had leaned on each other for advice over the years when dealing with difficult issues with church members. In one case in particular, Jim had a church deacon investigated for child pornography after he had discovered graphic images on the church office computer one morning. Someone had been viewing the images on the computer the night before and had somehow forgotten to close out the web browser. When he called Bryon for advice before he called the police, Bryon suggested he do some detective work on his own to try to identify the perpetrator before all hell broke loose when the police got involved. Sometimes these things could get so out of control the collateral damage could bring down the church entirely.

Book One of the Superstars Trilogy, Evil Rises: An Excerpt #7

Dark Forest

The first glimpse for the readers of the twisted mind of Satan, Prince of Darkness.

Chapter 30

Man’s perception of Heaven and Hell as interpreted in the Holy Books and retold and rewritten over the course of time has been a source of great amusement to the legend mankind calls Satan, Beast, Antichrist, Lucifer, Abaddon, Prince of Darkness, Beezlebub, or now even Robert Best. I have no name. I am nameless. I am many names. I do like it, though, when I am referred to by humans as the Prince of Darkness; it sounds regal. God’s soldiers, His angels, just called me the Dark One whenever we did battle. Spiritual battle with mankind is an ongoing, day-to-day ritual in my world, something that keeps me busy every minute of every day. In the last century, the movie industry growing by leaps and bounds and man’s technology developing at warp speed have provided scintillating and comic amusement for me. I enjoy man’s movies more than anyone. I could care less about man’s ideas of what heaven would be like for them when they die, but Hollywood’s movies about their version of Hell are great fun and I enjoy them immensely. My world is not a fiery pit of burning flame where humans go to sweat and toil for an eternity in physical form. It is far worse. Like a pearl hidden in an oyster, the soul of man is the treasure. It is his spirit that I want. The pain and suffering of a tortured soul crying for salvation that will never come is the fuel that heats my furnace. The soul of man imprisoned in Hell is a beautiful thing, for I will kill and torture man’s captured souls over and over, every day, for an eternity.
